Carved Black Obsidian Moon

This is a beautiful carved obsidian crescent moon with garnet accent beads wrapped in copper wire. A crescent moon shape is a symbol used to represent the lunar phase in the first quarter.

Obsidian is considered the stone of the Mayan and Aztecs. The volcanic rock was so abondant in the region that they used it for pretty much everything from utensils, to jewellery to weapons and therefore never really developed metallurgy. Obsidian had more value than Gold.

The stone has been wrapped in copper wire. The wire has been oxidized, polished and sealed to give it that antiqued look.
